Riven IV: Wave on Driftwood
There are quite a lot of trees and stumps on the beach today that must have been washed down the rivers during the big rains. They actually help hold the sand on the beach and make good subjects for photographs.

Hi Jules
This is a great picture, I always look about the banks of rivers for what might have been washed down with the waters, alas around these parts it is normally plastic bottles and bags. I have a picture somewhere of a garden shed stuck in the middle of a local water fall... I must dig it out.
Is you tree stump classed as floatsom or Jetsom? I keep forgetting the differance
Being a landlumber old tom (can I call you that?) I am not sure but I think jetsom is what is thrown over board and flotsom is the wreckage of a boat and its cargo & stuff?? Maybe a person-of-the-sea could help us with this???
You are right, Jules - you throw out jetsam and find floating floatsam ;-)
What a lovely photo! We have mega driftwood on our private beach on Hickory Island and it has helped us lessen the hurricane damage!
Well done Mr. Jules!!
Well, he-who-doesn't-blog did a nice job on this shot. I've enjoyed your beach photos.
The sea must have been rough to bring such big pieces of wood to the shore. We find trees on the beaches here too after big storms..............
Great series of photos Jules. The PNG landscape continues to deliver
Jules... you asked if you can call me 'old Tom'... you can call me anything you like. Just don't call me late for my dinner :)
Thanks for the Jetsom/Floatsom anwser
W(r)ave on....I'm rushing for my Buddy Holly. BTW "he does not blog" is a very sensible chap. And yes.. the photography takes hours.
Y'know, Aussies have a penchant for dragging this driftwood home to decorate their living rooms! I dare not comment on what we have in our house but Mme. will surely confess.
H-W-D-B has captured a great shot. Just keep delegating this job; outsourcing, so to speak, because Chuckerooon is correct, it sure takes some time!
I think that my blog has turned into "Writer's Week", or "Dead Poet's Society", Jules, so I have escaped here for some ocean calm at 2:30 am.
Your suggestion about the Lamborghini is the sensible option, but I reckon it would get bogged on the way to Riven. Anyhow, as my grandfather always said, "Nothing ventured; nothing gained". I'll bring it up on the weekend.
chuckeroon - I so love that Buddy Holly song!!!!
old tom - thanks and yes i'll let you know in heaps of time for dinner because a drink or two before hand is always on the cards
m benaut - glad the ocean here calms you!!! It is raining at the moment - we had a storm during the night (about the time you were visitng) and the thunder was unbelievable - I jabbed HWDB in the ribs and bellowed "God - did you hear that - its the volcano!!!" Much to say he was not amused.
You are right about the Lamborghini - this is definelty not the place to have one - it is just way to low to the ground. Maybe they make it in a 4WD model?????
Tell mme benaut that I understand her liking of driftwood - my garden and verandah is full of it.
He-Who-Doesn't-Blog says thanks for the comments.
I think he really enjoyed it - we may get him blogging yet!!!!
m benaut - that word is definitely - i have only been awake 15 minutes
Great pictures...
Is possible put in directriz with the respective link?
Tank you.
This is lovely....I have to admit that I have never found anything worth photographing along the beach like this....not that I am at the beach very often since Illinois only has Lake Michigan...but it is not the ocean with all the "flotsam and jetsom" but it does have some considering how big it is...it LOOKS like an ocean to a landlocked person!
