Where have all the potholes gone, long time passing?

There is an amazing amount of road works being carried out in Kokopo at the moment.

Every street seems to be under construction. Not that I am complaining I might add.

I won't miss the potholes.

The 1st photo is fantastic! What a great contrast between the hugly mess of the cars stiring the land and the beautifull 'mess' of the green in the background!

Our rural roads are getting in bad shape. And when the pavers do come, they pave sections and patches.. and the first time it rains and freezes it all breaks up again. I wonder if the material being used is not up to par, or if more traffic is causing this... constant thing trying to keep the roads up in our county.

Your photos are Great!

Wow that is a lot of machinery. It looks like they mean business.

Hi JM - yes we are the Land od f Contrast here!!!

ancient one - they patch roads here with koranas (limestone) and the minute it rains it washes it all out of the pothole again!! It would be cheaper to do it properly the first time you would think!!!!

marcel - yes they do!!!

To what end, Jules? Is it just simple road repairs or are there new developments afoot?

Jules said...

Lynn - They have basically ripped up the roads and have put down new roads, footpaths and curb and channeling. Lots of Aid money paying for it.

road construction--bad for business but good for our vehicles!

I always worry about my tires when a hit a pothole. Then I try to remember where the pothole was so I can avoid it next time, but then I hit it again. I have stopped driving down one road that is super holey.

they just patch here, which is bad, especially on a bridge!

Teeth rattling potholes seem to be the bane of everywhere.
Hope they really fix them for you. I agree that it would seem better to fix it right the first time.

I hope they do the roads right this time. I hate it too when they're so poorly made that they get potholes during the first big storm. And after all the traffic and inconvenience during the installation!

Wow that's a great improvement then for everyone. Lovely.

Jules said...

Hi Hilda - yes I agree it is always such a waste of time & money!!!

Lynn - yes my little car is very happy and so is my sore neck!!!

Crikey, you turn your back for a second and the buggars are digging up roads !!

Don't they know that civilized folk drive dug-outs !!

And the road signs, - what language is that; - OXYMORONIC ?

I'd be sitting on the beach with Benson, a beer and some kit-y-kat, waiting for Dive to arrive.

Dinner would be cooked for you and ready at sunset. Where's the tablecloths; - no worries, Benson probably knows !

Hmmmm........they've decided to do a town pavement makeover in Richmond. This totally stopped the traffic and the Police insisted they stop it at once to review the unimaginable chaos.

We are now making out, but it will go on for about 3 months!!

When they've finished down there, would you please send them over to my village, Jules?

Congratulations on your newly improved roads! Can you send that road crew over here to Molfetta when they've finished at your end of the world?

Jules said...

M B - We are waiting!!! Benson can't find the table cloths - will place mats do?????

Neva - yes I agree - my children and they are only teenagers (I was a late starter) have done more in their short lives than my parents.

Chuckeroon - yes we are in the same boat - roads are out everywhere but i can cope with that if they are going to be good!!!

saretta - hi!!! Will send them to you - no worries!!

Hi gmg - will pop over and visit later today!!

Even with all the pot holes it still looks nice there.

It looks like it’s all happening there!

Good for the vehicles that travelled there. But too many construction spoilt the rustic look.

OMG, in the photo, would it be Ralum behind you and a whole string of Shops down the road??? Because if it is my god it looks different from the last time I was there, thank God we finally have more then one decent road :)

Jules said...

ns - yes Ralum is behind (you should see the massive drain that now cuts across the 3rd??? fairway). The old Beach Hut is behind the blue fence and town is at the end of the street. All the streets in Kokopo town area are under construction. The foot paths are wide enough to walk about 4 abreast - weird!!!!

When were you here last???

Oman said...

amazing. thank you for another fantastic glimpse on your part of the world. great job as always.

Wait 3rd freeway???? I thought there was only 1 road in Kokopo that would remotely be called a freeway, and that would be the bit that goes from the round about near Gazell motors, to the other end of town. I was last there around Christmas last year, one of the kids that forms part of the hoard that visits Kokopo every Christmas, should be fun I'm coming back again this year, to me it's doesn't feel like Christmas till I've visited Ralum for the Christmas celebrations :)

The first photo is really great and shows all the fuss constructing the new road means ... but, it's a new road so let it come!

Thérèse said...

It looks just like the economy!!!

Jules said...

ns - fairway not freeway!!!
One of the hoards of kids that come back - God, did I teach you in the dim distant????

Anonymous said...

Oh right fairway, my bad... ... ... but no you didn't teach me, and I guess technically I'm not a kid anymore, but I'm still young at heart :) But I think I remember seeing you around, I think you know my parents, They run John J & H Seeto down by the beach :)

Jules said...

ns - the funny thing is i was trying to guess who you were and the first surname that came to mind was Seeto -
make sure you say hi next time you are home. Cheers

Thanks for posting these photos! Please post more and please keep us up to date regarding Kokpo's roads : ).

It's about time our roads get fixed!

NOTE: It's "karanas" not "koranas".
