Codes deal with fire and life safety as well as structural issues. In the US the codes keep getting more and more stringent each time there is a disaster that blows buildings down or they fall down during an earth quake.

I of course was joking about your doors as there would only be one of them in the photos that would meet any sort of code in the US and more than likely in Australia or the UK. I would give the builders of the doors you have posted an A+ for being innovative and using what material is on hand.

Here in Alaska you would find much of the same with salvaged materials and not building to any codes. As Alaska develops there are fewer and fewer buildings that are built without following codes. Using salvaged materials would be ok, but they would have to meet standards and believe me the building inspectors would look twice if you are reusing materials.

Take care,

P.S. All the photos are wonderful and they are what keep me comign back for more.Marcelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05730088464674356217noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7924670542270721219.post-42482873993749826002008-09-25T22:37:00.000+10:002008-09-25T22:37:00.000+10:00That first shot is fantastic, Jules! Their treatment in Europe appeals for the aesthetic which is hardly the case in your lovely collection. Don't normally consider that Morrison had anything much of value to leave to posterity, but this quote is okay - sans the capital letter.Juliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03334765584939911058noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7924670542270721219.post-9870251616705721922008-09-25T03:07:00.000+10:002008-09-25T03:07:00.000+10:00Fantastic idea for a project, Jules, you are quite...Fantastic idea for a project, Jules, you are quite inspiring me!Cheltenhamdailyphotohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00518073757785956012noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7924670542270721219.post-47254760263356752512008-09-25T01:15:00.000+10:002008-09-25T01:15:00.000+10:00Very beautiful set of photos.
