And a bit sad too (it has that "I miss home" feel to it).• Eliane •https://www.blogger.com/profile/17535070160739138725noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7924670542270721219.post-87107768541397187062007-09-19T13:23:00.000+10:002007-09-19T13:23:00.000+10:00a very interesting picture.a very interesting picture.Nevahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04601316661181297640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7924670542270721219.post-20137575267924230842007-09-19T00:46:00.000+10:002007-09-19T00:46:00.000+10:00Thanks pia for the information. I have saved both.

I don't really know how to ask but I did know one Japanese soldier who was there before the war and lived through the battles. I think he is dead now.

I just began a new site about Japan in the early 1950s when we were there. You can get to it from my Brookville daily photo blog. Times have changed a lot there too over the 50-plus years since we were there.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7924670542270721219.post-9897704800589618892007-09-18T20:00:00.000+10:002007-09-18T20:00:00.000+10:00Who says history can be dull?Who says history can be dull?quintarantinohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05910048372540673170noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7924670542270721219.post-46300796561162599532007-09-18T19:49:00.000+10:002007-09-18T19:49:00.000+10:00Wow! WW2 vintage and they collected the bones and effects including his wedding ring and eventually through diplomatic channels these made their way back to the families.
Six months later Gordon received a copy of a letter sent to his CO commending his efforts and that of his team. Turns out he'd been a pilot with Pan Am before the war and he had been listed as missing since the middle of the war. His family including his wife who had never remarried expressed their gratitudetitude at being able to put their father to rest.
We were able to identify 15 of the 17 remains and they were buried at Arlington under their own names.
In Vietnam one of G's comrades came off a rope during a " hot extraction" and was never found despite huge efforts. He is still mourned by the Regiment. Never knowing is a terrible thing, no closure.
{iaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7924670542270721219.post-78069175932495741392007-09-18T08:39:00.000+10:002007-09-18T08:39:00.000+10:00A piece of history.I like that title "Naughty but ...A piece of history.

I like that title "Naughty but Nice".Vie Lipowskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08474479290939422016noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7924670542270721219.post-20590737945650312052007-09-18T07:37:00.000+10:002007-09-18T07:37:00.000+10:00Interesting picture, this is something else I must...Interesting picture, this is something else I must look into.Tomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04167792394551286975noreply@blogger.com
