A plethora of water transport

Took this photo after diving one day at the resort next door. When I got it home I realised how many modes of water transport I had in it, including the truck/tractor tyre, which in Australia is one of our most popular water toys.

Do you use these at the beach?

This is a banana boat, and is the main form of water transport around here. It is the only way the people from the numerous islands here can get to the mainland to get their supplies.

They are notoriously over-loaded, lacking in basic safety equipment and often overturn in bad weather. I see them heading off, usually in the late afternoon, heading for the Duke of Yorks, and cross my fingers that they all make it safely.

Tractor tyres! Fun!
We use them in the pool but the sea round here is so cold that only a lunatic (or holidaying Norwegian) would bathe in it. Brr …

Hi Nathalie - Good to hear from you - will try and get over to you but I need a good phone-line to download your page so will try later tonight.

Hi George

Dive - in Australia we say the Victorians are the only ones that will swim when the weather is cold maybe they all migrated from Norway!!!!

The top picture is beautiful..
I see kids on some inland waterways with inner tubes but it is frowned upon... I always thought it was because of safety... but it seems folk over here do not like to be disturbed by the noise of kids enjoying themselves. Now thats sad.

Yeah Tom - the sound of children laughing is just so disturbing - I have always preferred dripping taps and barking dogs myself!!!! He! He!

Fabulous photography, Jules. You did get the transportation scene covered in that one shot.

Did you ever see a tiny fly hanging on the edge of a honey bee's wing?

Abraham Lincoln in Brookville, Ohio had a picture of one that he took.

Judging by the wonderful smiles on the faces of these little garçons, we can tell who's the popular girl 'round these, here parts, Jules. They sure must have missed you.

If you get the boys to ship you out to that nice floating gin palace, I'm sure there will be a ripper internet connection. Maybe don't; - we may never see you again. As Marie alluded, they're probably pirates. You can tell easily; they grip those long curved swords between their teeth as they swing thro the air to jump aboard your boat!

And, yep, I meant to say earlier; Nice new profile shot Lady !!!

I love the water transport photo! Isn't it great when you capture the mood and objects 'just right'?

Here in SoCal you don't see tire tubes, you see surfboards.

Happy you are back. I have missed your pictures of a land so different than my own. Great photos, especially of all the transportation.

Wow! That first picture is such a juxtaposition and a wonderful pictorial commentary on the disconnect between the haves and the have-nots. Well done!
