Sky Watch - Afternoon storms

The wet season has started (thanks goodness - it has been so dry), and every afternoon the storm clouds gather and thunder rolls across the sky......

............although at times it is hard to work out whether it is thunder or the volcano - they sound the same. The other night a sonic blast from the volcano across the water, shook the house and rattled the windows.

Never a dull moment around here!!!

Visit other skies here on Sky Watch Friday.

You surely live at the less monotonous place on earth! :-)
I've only been at two active vulcanoes, but never heard them thundering... it must be fantastic but frightening at the same time!

Hope your server has solved all the problems, it's so frustrating when that happens!...

Ha! So now, not content with smoke and ash it's "sonic booms rattling the house"........Oh for the "quiet life", eh?

What?! Volcanoes do that?! Oi

Hi Jules! With a 48h day I would have time to enjoy your blog more often; shame on the time controller… ;))
«A sonic blast from the volcano across the water»? Wow, I wouldn't feel so comfortable around... ;)
Meanwhile Blogtrotter will be departing Tunisia 2007 soon, but managed to keep the delay in posting on twelve (12) months only. Great achievement… ;))
Look forward to reading your comments and have a great weekend!

Hi All - yes some nights when the wind is blowing this way it just rumbles and rumbles and booms and bangs - you kinda get used to it but it can be unnerving at times.

Scary, but beautiful shots, love the hole in the clouds.

Wow and is that scary at the time or kind of Oh yeah there's another sonic boom from the volcano...zzzz?

Beautiful sky yet again.

What an experience and incredible sky to match. Definitely nothing like rattling houses here.

There's an old saying around here... If you hear thunder in the winter, it snows within 9 days... that doesn't work there, huh? (it doesn't work here much either...LOL) We've had rain all day and under tornado watches, but nothing but rain for us so far...

Glad you're getting some of your much needed rain...

I probably could't take your volcano sonic booms...

Lovely photos for SWF. Wow, I think I would be very afraid to live there with those volcanoes. Take care and have a nice weekend.

You have amazing cloud formations. It must be wonderful to see them in person.

And to have volcano eruptions/blasts, that has to be interesting!

Living near an active volcano. Wow!

I hope you are safe ... Big sky and tall storm clouds make for great photos ... these are thinks I remember fondly from living in Texas during my youth ... our clouds are much less dramatic in South Carolina ... But a volcano, now that is dramatic.

Therese said...

As long as the rattling is not inside the house...
Have a nice and safe weekend.

That sky is amazing. You can feel that there is a force pushing the cloud in the direction and it looks like its shaping up into an arrow.
Happy SWF.

Hi Jules,

The girls are back from Rabaul and my daughter is off here to China for Christmas soon - it's -0C here in Beijing and sometimes snowing so that will be a big change for her from her lovely sojourn in the land of sonic volcanoes! They had a great time there but I'm still teasing them for spending K70 on some fish and squid from a village in Blue Bay - is that seriously the price now there or am I spoilt from living in cheap China?

That second shot is spectacular!

The only sonic booms we get are from the blasting at the local phosphate mine, much less exciting.

what gorgeous shots of the clouds and sky...absolutely beautiful formations.

Never a dull evening, is there? But the photos are beautiful.

Jules said...

Hi All - thanks for your comments

Therese - when the house shakes ad the windows rattle it happens inside and out - sorry!!!!

Deidre - so glad the girls had a good time. I'm afraid K70 sounds about right but I guess a local would get it cheaper!!!! Keep warm.

PS I have a very slow connection this morning - have been having trouble all week so it may take all weekend to visit you.

Gorgeous photos. I think living near a grumbly volcano would make me a touch anxious. Your clouds sure are beautiful.

Incredible skies! Most spectacular cloud formations, indeed! I think I could not sleep well if I heard the rolling thunder and would not know if it was from the volcano or from the sky...
Have a nice weekend and I hope your computer behaves!

Lovely skies, but then you always have clouds on call.

Discovered your blog today and love it. We lived in Rabaul throught the '83/ '84 period when we were on eruption alert constantly. It was a wonderful experience and your beautiful photos bring back so many good memories.
