In Papua New Guinea, the people from each province have quite marked facial characteristics and build. People can often tell where someone is from, by their facial structure and build. I think the first lady is from the Highlands of mainland PNG, but I really can't tell with the second lady - maybe my PNG visitors could help out there.
Great portrait! Very expressive!
ReplyDeleteI love both portraits. Very nice and good commentary to introduce us to your feelings about the subjects. PS. I mistakenly posted "Bouquets"--getting ahead of myself!!
ReplyDeleteReally enjoying your photos of every day life.
ReplyDeleteVery impressive portrait photographs here Jules. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteA very nice "description" of the people at the market....lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you to these wonderful people for sharing their warmth with the world ... We also have an open air market however it is only once a week and represent a small fraction of the produce sold in grocery stores ... We also have a few interesting faces I should try to photograph.
ReplyDeleteGreat, great portraits. And i have to say, the hat the second woman is wearing made me smile. Great post!
ReplyDeleteYes.... it nearly looks edible, - great market and wonderful fresh produce with all the tropical fresh fruit and veg's.
ReplyDeleteYou guys must be sooooo healthy !
Yes Jules, i think so too. The first lady has features from the Highlands. I think most probably from the Enga province.
ReplyDeleteAs for the secound lady, I think she is from Rabaul, but i really can't tell with her stylish cap on.
Dorish
great hehe love the 2nd woman.
ReplyDeleteI would be unable to tell....
ReplyDeleteI like your paying homage to simple people like them. That is great.
(I hope I am not impolite when I use the adjective "simple". Maybe I should have used "regular"????).
Hi All
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your comments. Yes the hat is wonderful isn't it? They are quite popular here and come in many colours.
Thanks Dorish for your insight.
