Today is ANZAC Day when we remember the Australian and
An interesting fact: The first Australian service men lost in WWI were killed near here at Bita Paka during the capture of a German radio station.
I am posting this early as I fly to Port Moresby tomorrow and then on to Lae for work (will be back 3 May), so will be leaving you in the confident hands of He-Who-Doesn't-Blog and Benson (the Boy Cat). Hopefully they will remember to post every other day and keep their feet off the coffee table!!!!

It's a shame I'm not in Westminster today as they always put on a good show at the Abbey for ANZAC Day and our Aussie and Kiwi contingent get all emotional.
It's good to remember.

Good for you for doing a tribute to Anzac Day. I heard on the news tonight though that the men lost on the HMAS Sydney outnumbered the diggers lost in PNG and Vietnam (individually). No wonder there are tears flowing all over the country.
I thought I missed a day!! Love this photo ... and the history you provided about ANZAC Day. I read about WWOne recently and was amazed by the statistics.

Jules I realise I've missed a number of your posts since you are back, and how stupid was I. Most of your latest photos are just stunning!
This glassy sea reflection went straight to my heart, I remember often seeing the lagoon looking like that in Tahiti (I lived there for six years, twenty years ago).
The boy jumping in the water, the pink sky, and then the story about the surprise encounter etc. Just fantastic!
I hope you find your 'island legs' again soon and feel happy, preferably without too much gin to help!!!

Interesting post of the war memorial - have you seen the petition on ninemsn for Australian government to fund a search for the Montevideo Maru, another Rabaul war story, albeit WW2.

Just catching up with your Daily Photo's as like you I have been away, to Villers-Bretonneux for the 1st dawn service on ANZAC Day, very moving, 4000+ Australians in attendance, got a few nice photo's might email you if you are interested.
While in Paris on the way back to Oxford I spent an hour with Eric, great guy!
