Cathedral - update
The new Catholic Cathedral at Vunapope is gathering momentum. Since my last post here, things have moved on and now the inside is happening. It is in the shape of a shell - quite imaginative. Will show you more this week.
A European artist has been here painting the altar panels.

A local artist was also hired to paint his interpretation.

Big Smiles from across the world to you and yours.. :O)
Very dramatic ceiling! The paintings are so colorful. Should turn out to be one fantastic-looking church.
Gosh that place is huge! The art is quiet interesting and colorful. Anyone doing mosaics?
Hello Jules !
I hope your sad problems are over.
It is rather incredible, many people have come to my blog since we got the pleasant visit of Mme and Mr Benaut. They talked us about the New Guinea.Continue to watch my blog, ths story of your coming is not over yet.
Hello again from America's Brookville, Ohio and Patty and oldmanlincoln. Hope you are doing well, your Internet connection is strong and the pot is full of ice.
Nice photos too.
The art is astonishing! I love how you captured the flow of the shell's lines.
Love the murals of the cultures colliding. I would imagine that the acoustics will be magnificent with the shell shape. Keep us posted.
This construction is interesting to follow. "Louis" hopes you'll keep us updated.
"Louis" hopes the designers paid more attention to the acoustics in this cathedral than most modern designers. Here's "Louis's" rant about St. Mary's Cathedral ("Our Lady of the Maytag") in San Francisco. (Scroll down)
I like posting a different church each week because it shows so much about local culture and custom. They're always so highly personal.
This church looks fascinating. In the shape of a shell? I'm looking forward to future posts.
t's fascinating to see the construction on going. the images are so beautiful.
This is really a nice idea--the shell shape. and the artworks will inspire many parishioners. I used to daydream in church staring at the art and the stained glass windows.
beautiful pictures all!
The acoustics sounded pretty good the other day as the electricians scaled scaffolding to hang some spot-lights. i could hear every word they said!!!!
The cathedral looks amazing! What a shape!!!
I can't wait to see more of this building and its paintings. The local interpretations will be especially interesting and the ones that no doubt will be based in reality rather than mythology. I'll be interested to see if the local artist paints a panel showing how the white European brought diseases to the islands that probably decimated the native population.
Okay, I'll take my religious studies degree and go away now. It looks like a beautiful church in the making!
I particularly love the panels done by the locals. so full of life and hey, about life in their country.

A summer love is beautiful
But it's not enough
To satisfy emotions
That are shared between us
A winter love is cozy
But I need so much more
It just intensifies my wants
To have a love that endures
