Happy Fathers' Day

Today in Australia and PNG it is Fathers' Day. So to all fathers out there - thanks and enjoy your day!! I am just about to ring my wonderful Dad in Queensland and He-Who-Doesn't-Blog got early morning calls from our daughters.

In honour of Dads I thought I would post a photo of this very regal looking gentleman I saw at the market the other day.

When do you celebrate Fathers' Day in your part of the world?

Jules

Thanks for the Lutetia note. I enjoyed writing about Paris..

Here is my uncle's WWII PNG story. He was Chief Surgeon at New Engliand Deaconess Hospital in Boston when he was shipped off to New Guinea. It was so hot there, that he couldn't finish the emergency operatons in the medical tent. So the local men rigged up a very long string of coconuts that dipped into a barrell of water and moved along the top of the ten, dropping their cooling liquid on the canvas. The operating room had Island Air Conditioning. Then, some dreaded disease struck while my uncle was there. He decided to take action. He ordered enough medicine, given in shot form, for everyone on the island. The local men thought that if one shot was good, two would be better, so they would sneak around to the end of the line and get another one. These two stories, told to me over agonizingly long family dinners, remain as two fine examples of why we should all take lessons from island locals. Happy Father's Day to PNG men everywhere.

Well, Happy Father's Day out there!
Jules, am I dreaming or is this fellow sporting the stylish island suitcase you introduced us to a few posts back? Groo-vy!!!

In June is our Father's Day but we celebrate on whatever day the most family can be here. Do that also on birthdays and have even done it on Christmas a few times.

I like your photograph today. Very nice and he looks like he is a full-blooded native person. I also liked your response to the so-called gentlemen who wrote about the injections.

Hi there Jules... that man looks proud... must be...
The photo is quite nice and let each one of us wonder a little about his life...
Father's day? I guess it's somewhere in June but with my two twins it's almost everyday. In spite their 13 years (you know, "tweenies" age) we manage to have fantastic relationship...

Vicky - what a wonderful story. thanks you so much for sharing it with me - I can just imagine the scene.

Abraham - thank you for your comments and support. I loved your fire truck today - quite stunning

And yes I was a little startled by the man's aggressive and arrogant comments yesterday - quite amazing considering he was wrong!!! He obviously had some agenda which I totally missed.
If he was a gentleman he would have apologized I would have thought!!!

elaine - I am going to post some bilums for you to look at on my other blog Rabaul Extra Photos - will let you know when!!!

Quinto - my youngest is 13 too - it's a great age - most of the time!!!!

What a great looking face he as, full of knowlegde and very gentle.

Fathers day is June over here to, this years was more special in 'Tigley Towers' as it was my first year as a Granddad, and my oldest sons first year as a father. It also fell on my sons birthday which really was the icing on the cake. Not just that but my birthday fell on 7-7-7.

Jules,
I shall simply wish you "Happy Jewels Day", because you, like me, are so far away from our kinders! Mine are - 3 in Europe and 1 in Sydney.
Thank you for your nicely considered comment on traffic control measures, here in Adelaide. I have thoroughly research the matter and replied to you on my yesterday post. Happy jewels day to you and HWDB. I can see he holds a light for you.

Jewels Day - hmmmmm - should there be a National holiday granted with lots of parties and traffic control measures in force??

old tom - what a wonderful time it must have been. I am so looking forward to being a Grandmama but we left having children until quite late so will have to wait a while more!!!

BTW. even if you have already received this I am passing this award to you....pass it to 5 more people!
The 'Power of Schmooze Award' is The Award for bloggers who “effortlessly weave their way in and out of the blogosphere, leaving friendly trails and smiles, happily making new friends along the way. They don’t limit their visits to only the rich and successful, but spend some time to say hello to new blogs as well. They are the ones who engage others in meaningful conversations, refusing to let it end at a mere hello - all the while fostering a sense of closeness and friendship".
