Binatang bilong Neva

This binatang (beetle) was downstairs yesterday clinging onto a pot base. I immediately thought of Neva who hates bugs.

I have put a 10 toya coin beside it so you can see how huge the thing is. Benson the cat walked around it and said, "Excuse me Sir!!" before pelting upstairs out of its way!!!

Not sure what type it is, maybe Beetlebloodybiggus?? We do see them around quite a bit. I should go and google him.

Anyhow Neva but this one is for you!!!

Add me to the list with Neva. I think I might have flipped to find this in my house!

Wow that is one big bug. I hate flying cockroaches....

I suspect he is looking to visit his grandkids and can't find them. Did you ask what he wanted?

I talk to everything on the slim chance that everything can understand English.

Freaky! But I had to laugh because there's a TV commercial I've seen lately with a human-sized termite (looking vaguely like this bug) that knocks on someone's door and in a low deep voice asks if he can use their phone. So I'm picturing this bug asking if he can have some of the banana dish you made the other day.

Nahhh, I reckon Benson put it there on purpose, hoping you'd leave out the money.
He's probably doing some cat business up the road !!

You were looking for the big bad bear on my blog. I think I found the big bad bug on yours. (lol)

I thought it was a cockroach when I glanced at it in the portal - then realised it wasn't. I don't like cockroaches - in fact I loathe them. Actually I quite like beetles.

Hmmmmm, as I don't know how big a 10 toya coin is that's not incredibly helpful!

You've shaken up a few people, I see. (big grin!)

The list of us fraidy cats is getting longer by the comment Jules. Tropical sized bugs are not nearly as enticing as the tropical plants that grow there with them. I'll look safely from here.

I've always wanted to come and visit...now I'm just not sure.

Now see, this is exactly why those harmless snakes could be your friends. More reptiles, fewer invertebrates.

With bugs that size, who the heck needs to buy meat????omg....where you live is so beautiful I guess there has to be a "snake"(or in this case BUG) in the garden somewhere...but, come on!!! in the house??!!! on the plant??do your even THINK of going barefoot where you live??? You are an absolute HOOT!...I just give you all the thumbs up in the world for living where the bugs are as big as my foot and the volcano is spewing steam and I am guessing the earth might move occasionally under your feet!!!! Thanks for the shot out!

and about Sky Watch...it was my first one and I wanted to see how everyone else did it AND it fell on a Friday so I had all weekend to mosey through 179 blogs AND I don't have your crappy phone lines! (If I did I probably would have quit blogging long ago due to frustration!) Not sure I will make it to all of them this week.....but we will see!
BTW...who did remove that bug from your living quarters?

I love these beetles-- I also love your description of the cat's response to it.

I'm still having a little internet trouble. (sigh) it takes me forever to post something and get around to blogs.

ps do you have giant spiders too?

Okay... I'm with Neva with the snakes and I might be with her on this bug... how big is the coin beside him.. would it compare with USA dime? then I wouldn't be scared of the bug... But any snake.. no matter how small..I'd be running..LOL

Hi All - hope i haven't kept you up looking under furniture for another one!!!

Neva - I knew you love it!!!! They don't come inside because the house is all screened so they are only ever outside. This one was downstairs under the house on a pot plant. We only really see them when they are on their last legs -(pardon the pun!!!) They fly in to die, so they are far from energetic or scary - they just sit there quietly.

Squirrel - giant spiders must be out there but have never seen one - thank goodness. We get Daddy-Long-Legs and that is all i have ever seen. Maybe they are scared of the big beetles!!!!

Abe - I'm sure that in PNG they would all talk Pidgin!!!

Katie - not sure what they eat but bananas flowers the way i cooked them would probably not be on their hit list!!!

M B - you could be right - he was out all night and not asleep on his little beanbag at the end of my bed. Will need to investigate.

uselaine - the beetles are bigger than the sea snakes so you'd need a very hungry one to have a go at it!!!

Dennis will mess around with a small garter snake, but this bug gives him the willies... it has protective armor!

Lovely. Is this still for dinner? If so, I'll go straight to desert please. ;)

Jules, it's so very kind of you to dedicate this to Neva. LOL!!

I think your cat had the right idea :) I would not want to step on one of these guys in the dark with a bare foot. Yuk!

That is a (Aegosoma scabricornis 8452) or a Longicorn to us lesser mortals.

dive said...

Wowee, Jules! That's a beaut!
I want one!!!!!!!

Jules said...

Dive - keep an eye on the post there is one in the mail!!!

petebuck - so glad you know what it is - I forgot to google it. My younger daughter calls it the AAAAAH Beetle because when she chases her elder sister with one she goes AAAAAH!!!!!

chuck - standing on one is really freaky and can be fatal - for the beetle and the person who steps on it (heart attack city!!!)

eliane - they are quite tasty dipped in soy sauce but I'm trying to give them up - they are very fattening.

I'd need a ten-foot pole to put a coin next to that beast. Ugh. Brr. Ew.

Hi Jules I do not know what went wrong... next week I will keep a watch out.. Hope it did not spoil Sky Watch for you.

I was going to say, I wouldn't even pay 10 cents for it.
