Treasure
This young boy was with the lady with the pipe (last Tuesday's post). He had a phonebook under his arm and spent the whole time fending off other children who also wanted it. He finally chased them away and was victorious with his new treasure.

Our first hit of ash yesterday was a sign of things to come me thinks. The good thing was we have had quite good rain to wash it away last night. Hope it stays away for a bit longer.

You've given a very good title to your post, it really shows the relativeness of things...
Poor little Sweetheart!!! Makes you want to rush over there and take care of him!! And You!! Stay safe Darlin' !!!! hughugs
I love this shot! If the phone book has little maps and displays on it's pages and business logos it would be even more to treasure. What are your phone books like? Could you photograph a page? I'll photograph mine if you photograph yours.
Jules, I know that children are attracted to the oddest things (when my youngest daughter was four the only thing she wanted for Christmas was a Dust Buster), but why the phone book? He is cute, a very interesting face.
That has me very curious. I wonder why he was so protective of the phone book. I wonder if it would later be used as a stool or chair boost.
Our city has so many phone books. There are 8 or 9 delivered to us every year and I always put them emmediately in the recycle because I never use them. With the 21st Century and internet being so quick I find the books only take us space.
Great photo. He looks a bit suspicious of your intentions towards that phone book ... hope you didn't try to grab it (just kidding).

jm - I agree
donna - thanks - I am blowing the ash away as I type!!!!
squirrel - you're on but don't be disappointed i do think they all look the same!!!!
jules & david - when books are few and far between a great big yellow book would be quite a find. I wish I'd had a pencil to give him
at the time so he could have drawn on the pages.
annula - not he was safe. The only thing i took was his photograh!!!!
I saw your blog and found a piece of history your camera recorded. It is a blink, stopped dead-still, exposing a moment in time and the beauty you saw and captured in the little boy with his treasured phone book.

Hey - Hello from Beijing! Good to see we can SEE your posts again now. Miss Rabaul heaps in our smog - my daughter & neice will be at Vunagam in November - is thre much ash fall there?
Hi Beijing - have been wondering how you've been going - so glad to see your comment. Will check on the condition of Vunagam. The problem is the planes are often delayed and can't get in when the ash is over this way so they may need to be prepared for a delay in POM at that time of the year.
Abe - thanks for your lovely comment!!!
Your picture is worth a thousand words. Such a serious expression. Its heart rending.
Glad to hear you're blowing away the ash; may you have nothing but clear skies soon! This kid really is precious. You do such a good job with portraits! Sorry that I imediately thought of the movie line "The new phonebook's here!" from "The Jerk."
beautiful, beautiful photo.
Darn right it's treasure. He's got the goods on everyone with a phone.
Good luck with the ash thing, Jules. I wonder what you did to upset the volcano.
