Koranas is the local name for limestone which is used for road base. This koranas quarry is out on the Raiven Road.

Is a swim out of the question?
It seems like road builders aroudn the world love to use limestone for roads. I think it is becasue it is a softer rock and can be ground easily.
Love your photos. Make me homesick. BTW, spelling is "koranas"; Olsem, "ol i mekim rod wantaim koranas".

Kris - I think it would make a great spot for a swim!!! No crocs in there!!!
Marcel - yes it is very soft. Potholes are filled with it and after one rain it has washed away!!!
Thanks Graham - I got this from an engineering article that has obviously English-ised the spelling.
I didn't realise it was actually a local word until I posted this photo and tried to find more info about it on the internet (only found one and that is where I found this spelling). It is one of those words that is used by expat & local alike. I will change it on the post.
No fair, Jules! Even your quarries are picturesque!
Jules, Please send me your e-mail address so that I can provide the information you requested. Thanks, david
