A rope is all you need ...

Late on Sunday afternoon we stopped between Kokopo and Rabaul to photograph the sunset. While we were there we could hear children squealing with delight. We followed the sounds and found them swinging on a rope over the water.

As we got back in the car, four children walked past and we said hello and began to chat. They wanted us to take their photo so He-Who-Doesn't-Blog leaned over and snapped them through the car window. He was most disappointed when later at home he saw that the little girl was out of focus. But I still think it is a wonderful shot considering the constraints.

Papuan New Guinea children are just so delightful. They have the innocence and the joy of life in their smiles and their eyes. I just love them.

Can you tell which children are related? Not difficult is it?

Great stopped action on the rope jumper . . . you caught that at just the right moment. I too love the joy and innocence in those faces. Who needs National Geographic when we have "Jules Blog"?

Rope swings are so much better when the water is warm.

Great shots, those kids seem very happy to have their photo taken.

Beautiful children indeed. It's good that he who doesn't blog does photograph. A rope hanging from a tree over water is timeless and universal, and always spells fun.

It is indeed a wonderful photograph, Jules.
And that rope looks such fun.

Two super photos. Love the child on the rope. What a catch. And tell He Who Doesn't Blog that his photo of the four children is fabulous. They have such an open, unguarded look to their faces - more perhaps than children elsewhere. Maybe I'm wrong? They sure are happy soulds, that's for sure and it's captured in the photo. Such glee.

Only one word for it. Absolutely.

Nice photography. It doesn't take much to entertain a child. The rope does it.

Kids seem glad to be having their photo taken by Jules "National Geographic" ...

If I were there, (with Dive), we could spend all day doing this too, couldn't we Dive?
Y' can't do that so easily in Norfolk, nor in Adelaide.
See you at the next bloggers junket in Rabaul !

What could be better than a cord to play Tarzan and to plunge in water?

I have swung on such swings in the past, if I tried it now I'd pull the tree and its roots right out of the ground...
The children that you show here have all got great smiles, big beautiful eyes and look healthy

Great post! Love both photos, but the one of the children is special because of the close-up, and your accompanying words.

Hi All Thanks for your comments

Dive & M B - will set up a rope from the tree down the front over the water and will wait with anticipation for your arrival. HWDB said he'd set it in concrete to allay Tom's fears!!!!! Then Jane & Mme B will sit on the deck and laugh at you all then patch up the scratches and bruises after!!!!!

Dive - imagine some of those Norfolk "girls" swinging out of the trees at you - that would be a scary sight n'est ce pas?????

Fun! Nice photos too.

Reminds me of when I was a kid, we hung a rope from a tree branch over the river and spent a lot of time there in the summer.

Beautiful, happy kids. HWDB sure takes a good photo. I agree with the other commenters, we don't need magazines when we have you, Jules.

Maybe Old Tom could entertain the girls from Norfolk, Bergson would make a good Tarzan, (Il a la moustache correcte pour la pièce !), and Dive and I could drink medicine to dispel the scratches.
HWDB doesn't have to mix concrete, just the drinks.

Jules, my first visit to your blog as well. I love the rope swing image. So free! And the children's faces ... so beautiful and innocent. Even if "He who does not blog" clicked the shutter, it is definitely a photo and story worth posting. Thanks for your visit and comment today. ~Chuck

I think they're all brothers. They look identical, all of them. What fun.
