Hello Darling

This is our bird Caddy, a black-capped lory. She was rescued by HWDB from the golf course where his caddy had him tied to a stick, and was carrying him around trying to sell him. The poor thing was half -dead from dehydration and shock.

It is a dilema because if you buy the bird you are encouraging them to go out and catch another one and sell it; but if you don't they die. It was a very hard decision but heart won over head and he was rescued.

We have been unable to release him because his wings were so badly cut by the boy to stop him flying away that he is unable to fly up - just down and horizontal.

He is quite a character and is very vocal. He says "Hello darling" - which scares the pants off people walking past the garden, "Wotcha doing?" " Bedtime" and when you ask him how's his love life he says "OK".

What a beautiful bird, Jules.
Caddy looks very happy and content to be living with you. It is an awful trade, but at least this little cutie can enjoy life now.

We have a green-fronted Amazon and have discovered that birds are wonderful companions alth our Sadie is a bit temperamental. I'm surprised that your bird's wings haven't grown back; their basic structure must have been terribly damaged. We regularly clip Sadie's wings to control her flight when she's out of her cage. Your bird's colour is extraordinary. You did the right thing, to rescue her. Illegal trade in animals is despicable!

Clipping wings was how we kept our chickens in the pens during the war years. You can, of course, clip too much and damage the wings. I suspect, however, that in time, or after his moult that the feathers will be fine. At least I hope so.

I would suggest the country pass some laws against what this person was doing.

I hope Benson protects him. I am sure that animals have empathy, albeit, in small doses.
I told Benson to check out the ghekos and his pussycat chow, and leave Caddy to recover his strength.
I'll keep my eye on him as Benson is both smart and lazy.

...and who's a pretty boy then? shame to see him captured, but you can realise why....he's so attractive and clearly an enjoyable chap to have around.

What a gorgeous bird. I hope the feathers grow back. Reading Abraham, hopefully they will.

I'd never heard of a lory before, only lorikeets. so many beautiful birds in that category and yours has to be the most beautiful. Lucky bird.
