Stormy weather - try again
The last few days we have been lashed by strong winds and rain. The sea which is usually still is now pounding in and the beach has disappeared. This is fairly normal for this time of the year. The Dry is over…..here comes The Wet.
The wind causes havoc with power lines….a coconut tree fell on these so we were without power for 2 days. Luckily we have a generator but many people here don't.
We now have lost our main phone line but still have the email line (for what is is worth).
The earthquake yesterday hit Lae but there were no casualties. Luckily an quake of the magnitude that can wipe out a village in Afghanistan or somewhere else, seems to cause just minor damage here. We had a series of earthquakes 7 years ago -the biggest was 8.1 and not a house was lost, just lots of water tanks and solar water panels! The amazing thing was the GPS marker at the airport was a metre out ofter it!
The flooding has been in Oro Province on the mainland. Supplies are finally getting in thanks to the Australian Government. We have had only minor flooding here which is a relief.
Interesting times!!!

Wow - amazing shots, and great commentary, it sounds like a different world. Take care, and stay safe.
Do you ever feel like this will get worse? It would worry the daylights out of me to be anywhere in the Pacific on an island. I think you must be a brave lady.
i'm sure that you are used to it just like i am used to freezing temperature and snow . but i still hate it . probably so do you .
i like to watch storms but from a safe place . now , why is like that , i wonder ? hahaha
Wow rough or what.
Great photos there, just shows how rough it is.

Gorgeous photos, as always. I love this sort of weather actually - but preferably for a short time!
Amazing to read about earthquakes of such magnitude, doing so little damage.
We had a tree fall yesterday - a massive pine, downed electric and phone lines and I was 'out' for half a day. I pretended was in PNG with you!
Jules, "thanks" for this simple and graphic report. In a way I feel I've learned more about your situation and PNG than reading/seeing a load of news reports.
Now I will wait to see whether the earthquake conditions are even touched on up here. BBC World Service will most likely do it, but the rest?
Mind you, people up here are pretty "exercised" over the recent storms and inundation alerts.
Greetings, and "safe thoughts".
There's a pattern emerging here.
Jilly has been pretending to be in PNG with you, during this magnificent display of tropical weather.
I am sure that many, many more covet the lifestyle you present to us. We don't deny the hardships that you guys endure though, and only wish that things would get easier. I guess the hardships go with the territory and that forges the character of this fascinating land. It follows also that it strengthens those who share its beauty, "and its terrors".
Y' dun good lady !!
Hokay … Storms, earthquakes, crappy internet and of course the volcano.
But it's still Paradise, Jules.
And no matter how hard you try to stop me I will always be jealous.
Hi, just to let you know canal post 2 is now up.

Those photos really show how the storm must have been strong. Glad you are alright.
Your weather is an adventure of its own, Jules. If I lived through it I'd revel in the excitement of it all. I hope you are reveling in it.
You live a very interesting live in this place. I admire your fortitude. I guess you get used to it! I hope you stay safe and the phone lines get working! Did I ever mention that I like your new photo?
