Celebrations!

Two things to celebrate – yesterday was a big day!

My blog had its 50th post and I now have my Open Water Diving Certificate!! Both have been a real challenge at my age. Both have found me diving into the unknown, but I am hooked on both and will be out there in the deep-blue-depths, and in cyber-space, as often as I can.

With diving the sense of freedom is wonderful even though you are bolted in and hooked up to all this paraphernalia the names of which I am still getting used to – fins not flippers, BCD not vest thingy, regulator not breathing stuff ….and when you dive along a 30 metre wall of coral and fish, drop down on a wreck and follow a turtle into the depths, you are on a high that nothing else can beat!!

East New Britain has fabulous dive spots and I am hoping to check them all out. Of course I now want an underwater camera and to bore you all to death with my fish photos!

Thanks to Bruce and Erin for these photos.

Well done Jule's on the 50th post but more so for the diving. A proper little 'Diving Diva'. I can't even swim, how sad is that for someone my age, but I'm always the first in the water. Diving must be thrilling to do, enjoy enjoy enjoy.

How brave of you, the sea really frightens me, although I love to sit and watch it. Look forward to you getting a camera

Congratulations Julie! Now the underwater world is yours to explore. An amazing place isn't it?! Well done, on conquering that scarey stuff so you can breathe underwater. Whoo hooo! Paulette

Jules, I doubt those fish pictures will be boring in the least.

Congratulations on two big accomplishments.

Congratulations for your 50 post and for your diving certificate.
I like your construction in your picture today. The way you tell us the story without any word is very nice.

Fabulous! A double celebration. Well done on your blog which is always fascinating and your diving certificate. A brilliant achievement and it sounds as if you are now hooked (errr, sorry I mean enthusiastic!).

Note: thanks for comment - in fact there was an error with the photo on Monte Carlo yesterday, which I've now corrected. It wouldn't load for me either! Hope your server woes are now over.

It must be a great feeling. Don't think I could do it, besides not being g a very good swimmer, I wouldn't feel very safe.

Thanks all for the nice comments !!

Tom - I love the name - Diving Diva. He-Who-Doesn't-Blog has been calling me Diver Dan but I like Diva better!!!!
Actually I am not a strong swimmer either but you don't have to be - you just go with the flow - just breathing and kicking is all you have to be able to do. The rest just happens.

Lizzy & gail's man- I overcame my fear of deep water I just refused to let it win!!!

Paulette - so good to hear from you!!! When you visit we will go over to Pigeon Is for a dive!!!!

Steve & rambling around - you'll be sorry you asked for fish photos but it will be a while as my land camera has mould in it & I have to buy a new one!!!!

Congratulations Jules, on both counts! I have a certificate too but only went to 10 metres. I decided I had to try it to try to overcome my claustrophobia. It was hard work as I started hyperventilating with my head only two inches under water (and I'm a strong swimmer) but I persevered and I'm glad I did too. It was on the Great Barrier Reef just off Port Douglas (well, an hour by cat out). I admire you so much for taking to the deep water though - I don't think I could do that. The air is more my element I think!

Congrats and Congrats again on two great accomplishments! :-D

Every year I plan to get certified and somehow it never materialises. :(

Maybe next year I'll finally just do it. ;)

Congratulations on your 50th photo and your diving certificate ... When typing this I had to insure I said 50th photo not just 50th. I would never want to imply anything about a women's age.
