Even dogs go troppo in Rabaul
Even dogs can “go troppo” up here. You’ll often see dogs stretched out snoozing in hammocks, fishing from banana boats or snoring under coconut trees.
The bit village dog (related to the Asian dog) means she eats anything including apple cores, pawpaw and vegemite on toast;
the German Shepherd bit means she has a soft coat and is very loyal and affectionate;
and the Aussi Red Heeler bit means she is a lunatic….. I’m joking!!! ……is very, very protective, very territorial and snaps at people’s rear ends.
My daughter took this photo. Hi MM!!!

What a great picture ;)
That's quite a tongue...
She's got a pleasant face and seem to be pretty alert. Must be a charmer.

I wanted to find out where Rabaul was when you left your comment on PDP. Love learning about new places and things.
We had an Australian Cattle Dog, blue heeler. You're right about the snapping bit, right about the territorial part, of course, but you forgot they have unlimitted amounts of energy, incredible strength and endurance and of course the one we had killed the newspaper dutyfully every morning promptly after it was delivered. She also killed shoes brought back from who knows where, and possibly a chicken or two.. on her way back. Careful :)
It's a beautiful photo (tell it to her daughter) and you have a very lovely dog :-)
I would be curious about this; who clips her toenails?
I am immediately drawn to pictures of dogs and horses and any story associated with them just fascinates me. So your photograph this day made my day brighter and brought a smile to my face as I set here and it is totally dark outside.
I can't remember ever seeing a dog in a hammock by themselves. All of my dogs, as I think back about it, would have been scared to death to be on something that moves in all different directions.
Being on Rabaul, and knowing something of what happened there over a half century ago, I wonder if you have heard any ghost stories?
If ghosts exist there has to be lots of them there.

I was going aw-aw-aw until the bit about snapping at the rear ends!
Thank you all for your nice remarks. My daughters are in boarding school in Australia and miss her very much so they will be delighted to see the picture of her!!!
Tomato farcie - I agree with your description but this one is quite calm and i only lost one shoe when she was very little.
Abraham - so glad she has made you smile! She is a dear and loves the hammock expecially if my girls are in it. She doesn't like it swinging though when she is in by herself.
Your ghost question is very interesting - I will ask around. I know the local people have a strong belief in spirits and ghosts but I don't think they are war related.
z - you are safe she doesn't actually bite.
abraham - I forgot to mention - we walk her every day and she wears her nails down that way - oh and by madly racing around on the concrete under the house chasing ice-cream containers - her favourite toys!!!
Very cute. I love this photo.
I love dogs. Yours look intelligent and she is a very pretty girl.
By th eway if you know a way for me to find a teaching job on your island please don't hesitate to let me know :-)) Or even any job. No kidding I am considering relocating somewhere in the world, don't know where yet..........
Some lunatics are to be treasured.
I can truly identify with this dog.
I also think that Marie deserves a stint in Rabaul. On her return to France, she could teach Pidgin as a second language. Seriously, though, there could be nothing nicer than to do what she is thinking about.
I say, "go for it, Marie".
It's clear that "it's a dog's life" we all want, especially if that dog is yours.
Love it! What a dog and what a great photograph of a dog.
I LOVE dogs and this is a great shot....you must miss your girls!!they will love this picture....I have a lab that would jump into that without a problem!!
Now she is a sweety...hopefully she would leave my behind alone.
lavenderlady - your derrier is safe - she would love you!!!!
marie - GO GIRL!!! I think it is a wonderful idea. Do you have an email address i could get in touch with you through??
neva - we miss them terribly but blogging has helped get my mind off how miserable I am without them!!
Super Dog Pic...and a DP from Rabaul is something to savour. I spent 4 days in PNG in the 80s....wonder how it's changed. I'll be watching.
chuckeroon - so glad you'll be visiting. If you went to Rabaul during that trip in the 80's you will notive already it has changed immensely!!!
